Defensible Space
Twenty years experience in research forestry and restoration informs not just what we do but how we do it. Knowing why and how to make decisions about forest health, pruning and removal of brush and trees is key to creating a sustainable landscape that is fire safe, healthy and beautiful.
Fire ecology studies tell us that Sierra forests burned about every 10 years historically creating widely spaced old growth trees. Settlers in the 1860’s said that they could sprint a horse through the forest over grass covered floors beneath immense stands of pine trees. That is a vastly different forest from what we see today with tightly packed trees and fields of overgrown brush. After decades of logging and fire suppression we live in a forest today that badly needs our attention. Changing climatic conditions and intense fire danger have put us in a position where we need to remove fuels and correctly space trees and shrubs in order to minimize the chance of catastrophic fire destroying our community. Your property is a piece of the puzzle and helps to create a fire safe community. Let us bring our expertise and skill to create a sustainable forest.
